Art Installation
Humanities students have taken on the challenge of using the medium of recycled t-shirts. They used this medium to create a transformed space that intrigues the viewer in a playful, calm, and curious setting within the art gallery.
They visualized different ways to manipulate the medium: knotting, ripping, cutting, and braiding the t-shirts served to form their creation. Ropes are a consistent idea throughout the space, which was derived from the initial main idea of a hanging figure from the ceiling. Eventually, we came up with two separate settings that they wanted to display.
When you enter the gallery, the walls are intended for the viewer to interact with making their own unique art. Draping, twisting, and manipulating the hanging ropes onto the nails scattered around the wall is encouraged. The right section of the gallery was inspired by structures of nature, and allows the viewer to feel immersed within the installation.
