50 Years of Costumes - Behind the scenes

This exhibition celebrates 50 years of costume design and images behind the stage. A lot goes into the production of a musical and this show celebrates the work the costume designers do as well as captures the props and stage sets behind the curtain. Drawing 1 & 2 students took photos behind the curtain and created art where they were asked to tell a story or feeling of a hidden aspect of a show. Costume designer Debbie Andres has brought in designs that have been made for Buffalo Grove musicals over the years.

The process of making the costumes for a show is involved. Ms. Andres puts together a notebook with pictures from the time period and also pictures of costumes from other productions of the show we are doing. The students use this book as their reference when pulling pieces from our costume closet. The costume crew students work with the actors to find pieces that fit them and work for the show we are doing. The students have also created some of our unusual costumes. An example of student created costumes are the Lion from Wizard of Oz on display and The Lizard Man in Sideshow.
